BIO

Zaza Bertrand is a Belgian photographer based in Ghent, Belgium. She obtained a Master degree at Kask (Ghent,BE) in 2011 with her series 'So Far So Close'. With this series Zaza Bertrand was awarded as 2nd overall winner for the Photo Academy Awards by the Foto Museum Den Haag and was selected for .TIFF magazine by Fotomuseum Antwerp. She worked in Amsterdam for the Dutch quality newspaper ‘De Volkskrant’ as a freelancer. She later published 'Dreamlands' a series about the isolated rich communities in the Egyptian desert and 'Japanese Whipsers', an intimate work on Japanese love hotels. Both projects caught the international attention of the printed and online press: The Guardian, Huffington Post, Dazed & Confused, Volkskrant, De Standaard, De Morgen,... 'Japanese Whispers' series won the ‘Ibasho Photo Competition’ and resulted in exhibition at RIOT (Ghent) & Ibasho Gallery (Antwerp). The book 'Japanese Whispers' was launched at ‘Offprint Paris’ and published by Art Paper Editions.
